My name is Garrett Halstead and I'm a senior from Cokeville, Wyoming. Just moved to this town for basketball opportunity. Long story short, Ex Hawaii Men's Basketball player loved the way I played at their high school camp and his brother in law is the coach there and was very strongly recommended to play there. Here's some background about me! Leadership, it means the most. I believe everyone should be accountable to the overall success of the team. I hold my team mates to high standards; I positively encourage them and push them to be better. I make sure everyone feel confident and involved within the team. I take time to lift my team mates up during tough times. I may not have the perfect form, I may not be the tallest on the court, but physical presence only defines a person’s shadow. The key to a person’s character and potential is in between their ears. Every time I step onto the court, I carry confidence in my heart, mind and legs, not because I know I’m the fastest or because I am cocky, but because I know that I am prepared. One of my favorite quotes that I see every day as I leave my room, hanging above the door is, “Tomorrow’s success is determined by today’s preparation.” I guarantee you that if I am part of your team I will bring this attitude to every workout, every lift, and every race. I understand that part time efforts only yield part time results, and I am not good because of genetics or luck. I am the way I am because I have put in the miles and taught myself that hard work and character will get you a long way in all aspects of life. Success in my mind is about pushing your own limits to grab the hand that is always out of reach. It isn’t about beating everyone else; it is about fulfilling one’s potential to the fullest. To be able to play basketball in college would not only give me the opportunity to do this, but to also contribute to something bigger, my team and my school, in a positive way.
