John Handley High School Junior Middle Blocker/Hitter and 6-rotation player Alex Barnett was named to the All District Team for the 2011 Northwestern District. In addition, Barnett was also chosen to the All Area Team by the Winchester Star sports staff, and the All Area Team by the Northern Virginia Daily based on performances, statistics, and postseason honors

Returning starter at MB/MH … Was the most statistically-improved player in the Northwestern District last season … Has become the true leader of the team, on and off the court … Has the tangible and intangible qualities to become one of the best MB/MH’s in the AA Region … Barnett was ranked No. 1 overall in 2011 among the leaders in blocks by MaxPreps in Virginia. Has a great feel for the game … Has shown remarkable improvement since her sophomore season … Has become a dynamic defender/blocker … Plays with great poise and confidence … Had a breakout season this past year (2011 season) . For the 2011 season, Barnett had 203 kills and eclipsed the century mark in blocks with 145 total blocks, in addition to maintaining a 92 % serve percentage. She is a member of the National Honor Society and is an active leader in her school's community outreach programs. Barnett and her teammates advanced to the semi-final round of the Northwestern District Tournament.
