Quarterback Alex Smith is staying with the San Francisco 49ers after agreeing to restructure his contract. The former No. 1 overall draft pick agreed to sharply reduce his base salary. It was to be $9 million in the upcoming season. Financial terms weren't immediately available, but the 49ers now have Smith under contract at a lower salary for the next two years.
