Panthers hire Meeks as def. coordinator (AP) (sports.yahoo.com)

The Carolina Panthers have hired Ron Meeks as their new defensive coordinator. Meeks spent the past seven seasons running the Indianapolis Colts' defense. He replaces Mike Trgovac, who resigned last week despite being offered a contract extension. The 54-year-old Meeks will take over a defense that struggled at the end of the season.
