Rays sign Aybar to 2-year, $2.6M deal (AP) (sports.yahoo.com)

Willy Aybar and the Tampa Bay Rays agreed to a $2.6 million, two-year contract Wednesday, avoiding arbitration. The utilityman hit .253 with 10 homers and 33 RBIs in 95 games with the Rays in 2008, his first full season in the majors. He started 40 games at third base, 18 at first base, 14 as a designated hitter, six at second base and two at shortstop.
