Phils sign utilityman Cairo to deal (AP) (sports.yahoo.com)

Utilityman Miguel Cairo signed a minor league contract with the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday and will get a chance to earn a roster spot in spring training. Cairo is a career .266 hitter in 13 seasons. He spent last year with the Seattle Mariners, hitting .249 with 23 RBIs in 221 at-bats. Primarily a second baseman in the past, Cairo mostly played first base last year.
