Padres sign C Blanco for 1 year, $750K (AP) (sports.yahoo.com)

Free-agent catcher Henry Blanco and the San Diego Padres agreed to a $750,000, one-year contract on Wednesday. "We were able to get an experienced catcher with considerable postseason experience," general manager Kevin Towers said. "Henry is a clubhouse leader and a good, veteran catcher who mentored National League Rookie of the Year Geovany Soto in Chicago.
