Indians, C Shoppach agree to 1-year deal (AP) (sports.yahoo.com)

The Cleveland Indians agreed to a $1.95 million, one-year contract Monday with catcher Kelly Shoppach, keeping up their streak of avoiding salary arbitration. Shoppach batted .261 with 21 homers and 55 RBIs in 112 games last season. He led AL catchers in homers and took on an everyday role after Victor Martinez injured his right elbow, limiting him to 73 games.
