Gordon Hayward scored 22 points and No. 11 Butler shook off its first Horizon League loss of the season by beating Detroit 66-61 on Thursday night. Hayward was 7-for-8 from the field and 4-for-5 from the free throw line for the Bulldogs (20-2, 11-1), who stayed one game ahead of Wisconsin-Green Bay, which handed them their first conference setback Monday night.
